Mirco Snitch 1.2 Released
We released an update to Micro Snitch today that adds six new localizations and fixes compatibility issues with OS X El Capitan’s new “Automatically hide and show the menu bar” setting.
This new version also requires OS X El Capitan – it does not run on OS X Yosemite. Strictly speaking, there is no technical reason to require the new operating system, but we decided to drop support for the previous version to avoid frustration for new Micro Snitch users on newer Mac notebooks. “Newer” in this case means every MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro model released between 2013 and now.
If you have one of those Macs and you’ve used Micro Snitch on OS X Yosemite before, you were presented with a message that your Mac’s FaceTime HD camera was not compatible with Micro Snitch due to a bug in OS X Yosemite’s driver for the camera. Apple has fixed this issue in OS X El Capitan and everything works as expected now.
Would we not drop support for OS X Yosemite, users could still buy and download Micro Snitch on notebooks whose camera does not work correctly and Micro Snitch would have no choice but to suggest upgrading to OS X El Capitan. To avoid that, we decided to simply require the new OS X version.
If you can’t upgrade to OS X El Capitan for some reason, Micro Snitch 1.1.2 will of course remain available on the legacy download page.
