Selecting Items
LaunchBar offers a variety of methods to select a particular item.
You can search for items either by entering arbitrary abbreviations of the item’s name, by browsing LaunchBar’s index or the contents of your hard disk, or by combining these two techniques. Further, LaunchBar provides convenient access to all applications that are currently running, and to those items that have been accessed recently via LaunchBar.
Common Techniques
- Enter an abbreviation to pick an item from the index.
- Sub-search a collection that contains the desired item.
- Select a running application by pressing Command-Space-Space,…
- Use the left/right arrow keys to select an item via browsing.
- Select an application, press right arrow to access its recent documents.
- Press Command-L or type a dot character to enter arbitrary URLs.
- Press Command-G to transfer the current Finder selection to LaunchBar.
- Press Command-V to paste a file path or a URL onto the bar, or press Command-Shift-V to invoke the the Select From Clipboard action.
- Drag a file, folder, URL or some text onto the bar (hold down the Shift key to enforce the Select action).
- Send a selected file or text to LaunchBar via Instant Send.
Speaking the selected item
To get acoustic feedback of the currently selected item you may turn on the “Speak selected item” option in the General pane of LaunchBar Preferences.
